Discovery Journey to India

Day 1 •Leave from New York or Chicago about 8 pm

Day 2 • Bombay

Arrive Bombay the business capital of India. You will be met at the airport and welcomed with traditional flower garlands. Transfer to your hotel and rest.  

Day 3 Bombay - APRIL IN BOMBAY
Your discovery of India starts with a visit to a school of social work and discussion with a group of faculty and students about the salient features India today – strength of its democracy and the functioning and future promises of its economy. Today's sightseeing includes the Gateway of India, the Victoria Terminus, an indoor market, the Hanging Gardens, a Jain Temple and the Prince of Wales Museum.

Day 4 Bombay - Delhi
Visit a welfare center, inaugurated by Mother Theresa and currently run by the Missionaries of Charity. Visit also a Parsi temple Late this morning you will take a flight to New Delhi, the capital of the largest democracy in the world Visit an Asian Community Action and Research Agency, working with hundreds of peoples' capacity building organizations throughout India and have a discussion on democratic values and grassroots level decision making Also visit two major international organizations, WHO and UNICEF.  

Day 5 • Delhi  
Meeting with a senior federal government Minister or official. Visit the Gandhi Peace Foundation or a national organization promoting nationwide community health Evening Gala New Year Celebrations the Indian Way. (cost additional.)

Day 6 •DELHI –JAIPUR by coach
Drive to Jaipur. Enroute visit a school and a small business. Jaipur, once the capital of Rajasthan province, is known as the "Abode of the Rajahs." Check in to your selected hotel. This afternoon, take the opportunity to walk through the old Pink City bazaar on your own, where you may shop for local items. Jaipur is known for textiles, jewelry, semi-precious gemstones and carpets.

Day 7 • Jaipur  
On today's tour visit the Amber Fort, a marvelous example of Rajput architecture with its terraces and ramparts reflected in the Maota Lake below. True to the style of Maharajas of the past, go up to the fort on a gaily-caparisoned elephant. In the afternoon, visit the City Palace Museum with its blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art. Also visit the impressive Jantar Mantar, an accurate observatory built in 1726, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), a five-storied wonder with a spectacular pyramidal façade and overhanging windows with latticed screens, domes and spires.

Day 8 • Jaipur-Agra  
Today, after breakfast, depart for Agra. Enroute, visit Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted red sandstone city built by Emperor Akbar as his capital. Still in pristine condition, it is not hard to imagine what the grandeur of court life must have been like in this veritable fairy tale city.
Proceed to Agra, the home of the Taj. Evening optional visit to Taj. Taj in the moonlight is considered breathtaking!

Day 9 •AGRA – DELHI by coach
Today behold the Taj. Begun in 1631, the magnificent monument to love, the Taj Mahal, was built by Shah Jehan in memory of his beloved queen. What makes the Taj Mahal unique are its perfect proportions, distinct femininity, medium of construction and ornamentation. While it is dazzling white during the day, its marble exterior reflects rose and golden tints at sunrise and sunset. This afternoon proceed to Delhi.

Day 10• DELHI –to New York or Chicago for same day arrival
