- Climb on The Great Wall of China; Visit the famous Tian An Men Square, the Temple of Heaven
- Meet the Terra Cotta Warriors of Xian; Enjoy authentic Chinese food
- Do some bargain shopping – silk, pearl, and spices
- ***And above all, explore and experience the Chinese culture, history, values, & traditions and learn
- unique features of the health and human services systems of China! This integrated study of health and human services will emphasize the societal influences on policies, programs and institutions.
Components of the study include:
- present-day life, lifestyle and living conditions of people in urban and rural China, including their economic and social problems;
- an analysis of how these factors influence the development and functioning of individuals, families, groups or communities;
- an analysis of global issues, including globalization as they affect life in various parts of the world and
- an analysis of health and social welfare in China.
Learning Activities Include
- Pre-departure reading, orientation, seminar and individual consultations
- Meetings with professionals and community members in China
- Seminar and group discussions, led by faculty and practicing professionals
- Discussions with government officials, college faculty, practitioners in the field, students of social work
Visits to universities, schools of social work, NGOs and government and international agencies
- Daily journaling, roundtable discussions and written analysis of learning outcomes
- Concluding session to identify a significant learning experience and distill its implications for one’s own practice and profession
- Assistance available to participants wanting to tailor inquiry to a specific area of interest.
